Purdue defense strong, crush Missouri 35-3

COLUMBIA, MO.– The Purdue Football team is 2-1 after destroying Missouri 35-3. A great defense and offense backed the Boilermakers.

Saturday marked the first time since 2012 that Purdue has won back-to-back games. Winning is going to become more common on Saturdays for our Boilermakers. Expect more back-to-back wins during Jeff Brohm era.

The first half went great with Purdue leading 28-3 going into the break. Purdue started off the day on a great note driving all the way down to the Missouri 5-yard line led by QB David Blough. On third and goal, Blough ran 5 yards for a rushing touchdown. It was the first score of the day and put Purdue in the lead 7-0. The Boilermakers next drive went the same and was capped off by a 36-yard rushing touchdown by Tario Fuller. The third Purdue possession of the game ended with yet another rushing touchdown. This TD drive was capped off Richie Worship.

Fuller led the ground game with a healthy 19 carries for 90 yards with one touchdown.

David Blough and Elijah Sindelar combined for 272 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Blough started at QB and finished 22-28 for 187 yards and a touchdown. Sindelar went 4-6 with 85 yards and a touchdown.

Jackson Anthrop caught the first receiving touchdown of the day. It was a 5-yard pass from Sindelar in the second quarter. Anthrop finished with 6 receptions for 36 yards. Richie Worship caught a 1-yard pass from Blough early in the 3rd quarter which ended up being his only reception.

On the defensive side, things couldn’t have gone any better. A great defensive performance by Purdue held Missouri to only 3 points. WR Malcolm Dotson recovered a Tigers fumble on special teams in the second quarter. LB Ja’Whaun Bentley led the defense with 8 tackles. S Jacob Thieneman and LB Derrick Barnes each added 5 solo-tackles.

CB Kamal Hardy and LB Markus Bailey each caught an interception from Missouri QB Drew Lock. Lock finished with a terrible 14.8 rating due to a great defensive performance by Purdue.

UP NEXT: Purdue is going to be tested at home against the #7 Michigan Wolverines. That game will be played at 4:00 PM ET.
